get super missiles early:

in brinstar where you first get supermissiles, but remember you need the speed booster, roll into a ball and roll across the platform where the doors come down when you get near them. it fails several times but eventually it works and lo and behold you can get super missiles early and before the speed booster.
I'VE done it first time before, it works.

Have all 5 guns (this only works against bosses) have the charge, ice, wave and spazer on the plazma will turn of when you have the spazer on. Go to one of the boot upgrades press left + A at the same time and the plazma should turn on. say against mother barain hit her head (when on the ground) she will die faster

Beam Shields:

To get different kinds of shields, you need the charge beam, at least one power bomb and any beam.

To activate the shields, press SELECT and select the power bombs. Then activate ONLY the charge beam and one other beam (i.e. ICE, WAVE, SPAZER, PLASMA). You get different kinds of shields for each beam.

During the 3:00:00 escape time from Zebes, there is a way to save your friends ( They need to get off the planet too!) in the screen BEFORE the long shaft up, Dash into the door (Don' t forget to blast your newly found HYPER beam before and after entering!)run to the end of the hall and duck to activate the jump. Now there is a way to make a speed booster jump up the shaft. Position yourself at the left side of the shaft and away you go! This saves time now make your way to the very top (but don't leave!) Go to where you got the bomb powerup and save your friends! (shoot the right wall) Now Escape!!!!
