Save gil in the Inn:
I haven't tried it in FFI.
But I am positive about FFII.
When going into the Inn, instead of just talking,(if you have Cure and enough magic) heal yourself as much as possible or until you life is full for every character. It will cost less, I don't know why.

Link is Dead
When in the town of Elfheim, if you go behind the sanctuary there are 3 gravestones, the one on the left has a message saying "Here Lies Link" which is the hero of the Zelda series.

Kingdom Hearts
Not really anything special, a reference to Kingdom Hearts. On the 27th Floor of the Whisperwind Cove is a boy in "toy Town" (the place with all the houses, in and out) The character with blonde hair says, "I've Been having these weird thoughts lately..". Just like the Intro to Kingdom Hearts.

2 Tips:
When in the ice cavern in FFI, you can fight Death Eye that guards the Levistone many, many times in order to gain a lot of exp/ gil. I leveled up about 20 times before finally leaving.
I've found that, if you utilize the Bonus Dungeons correctly, the best team in FFI is:
1. Black Mage/ Wizard/ Equipped w/ Murasame
2. Black Mage/ Wizard/ Equipped w/ Ultima Weapon
3. White Mage/ Wizard/ Don't attack with her...
4. Warrior/ Knight/ Equipped w/ Ragnarok
The later stages of the game are soo easy with this team is crazy. I beat the reborn Fiends and Chaos without much effort at all, with my guys at level 68.
The black wizard pair actually works well as an attacking force when you cast Saber, Haste, and Temper on themselves for about two rounds each.
Coupled with the Knight i did about 6000 damage each turn against Chaos.
